University of Liverpool closes Sydney Jones Library ‘until further notice’

Students can still book spaces in the Harold Cohen and other on campus locations

The University of Liverpool has decided to close the Sydney Jones Library from Thursday 14th January in an attempt to tackle the increasing Covid-19 transmission rate.

In an email sent to all students from Gavin Brown, the University confirms that students are now unable to book study spaces in the SJ, but spaces in the Harold Cohen Library and various study spaces on campus remain available.

The Click and Collect service in the Sydney Jones is still available to all students on weekdays from 11am until 4pm.

The email urges students to book study spaces during ‘off-peak’ times, such as during evenings, to improve the chances of being able to book a slot.

In response to the decision, students have signed a petition to keep the SJ open, claiming that the University closed the library without any warning.

Students are advised to frequently check the UoL library information webpage for further updates.

The University of Liverpool has been contacted for a comment.
