Uni staff member robbed at GUNPOINT

Two thugs nick worker’s phone and cash near Upper Brook Street

A UoM worker was threatened and robbed at gunpoint last week.

The staff member, who has not been named, was walking through Gartside Gardens, a small park just behind Upper Brook Street near North Campus.

Two men approached, one holding a small barrelled handgun, and demanded that the victim hand over their phone, cash and cards.

Luckily, the staff member was not hurt in the ordeal, which happened on the afternoon of 22 April.

But it’s not the first time a firearm’s been spotted on campus. Earlier this year a gunman attacked a student on Oxford Road. He was then fought off by the ballsy student after the culprit tried to make off with his phone.

And just before Easter, a crossbow-wielding student was arrested after waving the weapon around at Grosvenor Halls.

Since the assault on the uni staff member, security have advised students not to walk through the park to get to North Campus, but to go along the more open Upper Brook Street instead.
