Krunchies caught serving up pizzas with ham that was actually turkey

Tricksters at Krunchy Fried Chicken have been caught selling ham and cheese pizzas that were actually covered in turkey. 

Staff were caught red handed when they served up the 10 inch “ham” and cheese pizza to two undercover council officers.

Now, embarrassed owners of the popular take away have admitted to fowl play after their pizzas were “adulterated” with the turkey.

Shocked Manchester council officers were served the 10-inch pizza at the branch on Bloom Street, near Manchester’s Gay Village, back in December.

Despite the officers asking for an extra topping of ham, laboratory tests concluded there was not a single trace of pork on the pizza.

Now the license holders, married couple Fouad and Jacqueline Simeen, have pleaded guilty to a charge under the Food and Safety Act 1990.

Manchester magistrates court heard that the pizza was sold “to the prejudice of a purchaser” and had been “adulterated” with turkey.

Mrs Simeen defended herself and her husband, saying that she was not aware that the word “ham” had featured on their menus as their takeaway leaflets said “turkey ham”.

The two officers from Manchester’s environmental health department revealed their true identities and intentions upon collection of the pizza.

A shocked member of staff admitted it was turkey instead of ham, said Paul Scott, prosecuting.

The couple who were conditionally discharged for 12 months with a £1000 fine said: “At no time was it a deliberate intention to sell to the prejudice of the purchaser.”

“The shop was sold on 17th July 2014.” Thank pork for that.
