Manchester comes 35th in world university rankings
According to the Shanghai ‘Academic Ranking of World Universities’
Annabel MurphyThe University of Manchester has been ranked the 35th best university in the world in the 2016 Shanghai rankings.
The only other UK unis to come ahead of Manchester were Cambridge, Oxford, UCL and Imperial who came in at fourth, seventh, 17th and 22nd respectively.
With a total score of 36.4, Manchester came ahead of fellow UK uni, Edinburgh, who scored 33.6, putting them in 41st globally.
American unis dominate this list, with Harvard, Stanford and Berkeley taking the top three spots. Harvard has the highest score of 100, a huge 25.3 points ahead of the runner up.
After a recent surprisingly low UK ranking was announced, the University of Manchester was at risk of losing credit. However, these rankings prove that it really is up there with the best unis in the UK, and indeed the world.
Rivals Bristol and Leeds weren’t even close, as Bristol takes 57th and Leeds was deemed to be in the 101-150 category.
