Parklife transport unaffected as tram strike is called off

A four day Metrolink strike that would have affected trams to and from Parklife this June has been called off.

The strike would have seen customer support, engineering and business support staff walk out at 9pm Friday, June 7 until 5.59am on Monday, June 10 as part of a pay dispute.

Parklife takes place on 8th to 9th June this year, and the strike would have affected transport for some of the 8,000 festival goers.

Unite Union bosses agreed on a revised pay package for employees following a weekend of discussion with Keolis Amey Metrolink Ltd, the company that runs tram services across Greater Manchester.

Union bosses had originally acknowledged that the strike 'clashed' with Parklife, with Metrolink assuring that 'robust' measures were in place to minimise passengers' disruption.

Danny Vaughan, Transport for Greater Manchester’s head of Metrolink, said following the news, "It’s good news that a revised pay offer has been agreed between KAM and Unite officials, I am grateful for the efforts of all parties to reach this point.

"The new pay deal is still subject to a workplace ballot – but it does mean that there will no longer be any industrial action around what will be a very busy weekend for Greater Manchester.

"I am sure this will be a huge relief for all Metrolink passengers."

Festival goers need not worry as all tram services are continuing as usual over one of the best weekends of the year.
