NUSU Elections: Meet the Activities officer candidates

It’s that time of year again. Expect to be littered with leaflets as you walk past the Students’ Union.

But we’ve made it easier than ever to make an informed decision about who you should vote for.

Katy Powell

Studies: Modern Languages

She’s been involved in:

• Secretary of Dance Society 2015-2016
• Working towards NCL+ Award 2016
• Freshers’ Crew and Rag Crew supervisor 2015/2016
• Erasmus student in France 2014/2015
• Freshers’ Crew and Rag Crew member 2013/2014
• Student mentor for Modern Languages students 2013

Katy’s manifesto in five points:

1. Increased participation in RAG and Freshers’ week.
2. Create a more efficient and effective room booking system in the Union.
3. Set up drop-in sessions for committee members.
4. Refresher committee training training session in Semester 2.
5. Boost awareness of the benefits of the NCL+ award.

Studies: Biomedical Sciences

She’s been involved in:

• Hitch President 2015/16
• RAG Committee 2015/16 and RAG Crew 2015
• Musical Theatre Teacher for Dance Society 2015/16

1. Offer incentive for all students to try something new/sign up to at least one society.
2. Increase membership of student minorities and ensure every activity is accessible to all students.
3. An extra day and more stalls at Fresher’s Fair.
4. Attempt to enable more graduating students the opportunity to attend Grad ball.
5. Encourage more students to participate in RAG week and Fresher’s crew.

• Social Secretary for FILMSOC.
• Producer and Stage Manager in Newcastle University Theatre Society.
• LGBT and 20 Minute Society member.

Chloe’s manifesto in five points:

1. Introduce a society of the month award.
2. More administrative and financial support for large societies.
3. Encourage students to volunteer both with and outside the university.
4. Introduce more bookable rooms all around campus for societies.
5. Introduce student ‘Have Your Say’ online polls and actively promote Student Council.
