REVIEW: New Girl, Episode 11, ‘The Damp Towel.’

‘Let me ask you this, have you been wearing my underpants?’

So… Schmidt’s towel is always DAMP and he feels like he’s ‘being licked by a golden retriever.’ Nice image (NOT) but that’s Schmidt, with his ‘sculpting chutERney.’ What even is that and what’s with the odd pronunciation?

Jess tries to use Julia’s position as a lawyer to get her out of a traffic ticket. This doesn’t go exactly to plan though, after the revelation that Julia is ‘not really a dessert person,’ which Jess understandably finds ‘fundamentally strange.’ It’s true, whenever someone says that to me, I have to stop my face from moulding into a look of disgust and prevent my jaw from hitting the floor! How can a person not like Apple crumble? Cheesecake? Brownies? What’s wrong with these people?

One of the highlights was when Jess and Cece’s lesbian friend mentions the ‘lesbian community,’ at which point Schmidt runs from his room to join the conversation. Typical LAD thing to do but it did make me laugh. ‘So this community you speak of…’

I find it odd that Winston and Schmidt say that Nick has ‘no game.’ After all, Jake Johnson is the best looking out of the three, right? Julia and Nick clearly want to be official but they just don’t know how to say it. Julia goes to the toilet to cry, Jess tries to comfort her but they end up arguing, at which point Jess has to leave to go into the guys toilet to cry but unfortunately Nick’s already in there sobbing. It was one of those weird moments in New Girl where you just kind of have to accept it (there’s a lot). Nick and Julia sort it out and become ‘exclusive’ as a couple by the end of the episode though.

I can see where Julia’s coming from with the whole not liking Jess thing. After all, she does have a ribbon hat and her ‘cheques have baby farm animals on them, bitch' (a feistier side to Jess). You’ve got to either love her or hate her. MARMITE. Though after getting over Jess’ ‘uniqueness’, shall we call it, Julia and Jess end up crocheting together (sewing basically). Again you must accept the randomness.

Schmidt edging out of the bathroom was another one of those predictable but fairly funny moments. Slipping on the floor and dropping his towel gets comments such as ‘You’re making me gayer!’ This is so not what you want to hear when women see you naked!

The last part was probably the funniest bit out of the whole episode. It appears both him and Schmidt have been using the same towel. AWKWARD. ‘Do you even wash it?’ Nick has never washed the towel it seems, as apparently he’s not aware that you’re supposed to. Schmidt begins gagging at the thought of it.

‘I am furious right now.’ (He’s just so girly, he really is)                             ‘Let me ask you this, have you been wearing my underpants?’
‘Sometimes, yeah.’ This has Schmidt on the edge of throwing up. TOO FUNNY.

This episode has a fair few chuckle moments in it and made Schmidt seem even more girly (and gay) than usual. The plot line was a little ‘blah’ but purely for the end scene when the mystery of the damp towel gets revealed I’m going to go with three stars.
