Rugby Report: Back With A Bang!
UEA boys thrash Swaffam 118-0!
The UEA RFC celebrated their return and the UEA’s 50th anniversary with a devastating 118-0 win over Swaffham 2nd XV on Saturday.
In a team that included several debutants, it was perhaps Kolade Awobowale who shone out, landing 5 of his side’s astonishing 19 tries.
Swaffham never looked like scoring in a match where they struggled to maintain possession for even a few phases.
There was a clear mismatch in quality between the teams, however, that is not to take away from the UEA’s clinical performance. The scrum was dominant throughout, and the forwards physical at every breakdown. The backs produced fluid passing and great hands all through the line, and broke through the Swaffham line with incredible ease.
Nick Hartshorn, who started on debut at scrum-half, produced consistent ball from the scrum and it was his box kick that produced one of the moments of the match, Kolade Awobowale latching on to it and fly hacking the ball the entire opposition half to touch down between the posts.
Shouts of ‘dirty pint’ were heard when Ed Guadencio dropped the ball over the line after an awesome solo run, but this was one of the few unforced errors seen throughout the match.
Man of the Match Charlie Nicholson, was consistent with the boot and brutal in contact.
Speaking after the match, Club Captain Sam Baines spoke of the teams performance, saying, ‘What was impressive was not only how strong the team looked in attack, but also that they maintained concentration throughout and didn’t concede a single point.’
Support was awesome on Sunday, and UEA Rugby really welcome anyone who wants to come down for their next game, on Wednesday against RAF Marham at Colney Lane.
