Spotlight: See your play performed in the LCR
Fancy writing a play and seeing it performed in our beloved LCR? Now’s your chance.
Do you crave the Spotlight?
The UEA Drama Society are once again calling for submissions for its annual production of shorts, Spotlight. Submission closes on Sunday, February 2 and the committee are looking for no more than 15 minutes of script.
The chosen six plays will be announced at the DramaSoc committee meeting on February 10th. Each short will be brought to life by its own individual production team and performed in the LCR on March 21.
President Chrissy McMahon says that the committee aren’t looking for any previous writing or production experience, just ‘engaging’ pieces of writing. Aside from length, the only limitation they’re putting in place is the size of the set, due to having a limited budget to produce the event. McMahon said the committee’s main goal for the night is to get ‘hundreds of people who [have] previously never been involved in DramaSoc making theatre”.
Last years production sold out the LCR and was a ‘witty’ and ‘sharp’ success. The choice of plays was extremely varied and covered a number of topics and styles. Scripts depicted everything from reenactments of typical student life, from Caterina Incisa’s ‘Saturday Night’, to ‘a series of monologues linked by Britney Spears “Toxic” in the form of ‘Talking Beds’.
To get involved with the production, eager writers must first download a proposal form, available on the DramaSoc web page, and submit it directly to the committee. After submission has closed and plays have been announced, auditions will be held between February 15 and 16.
