The Tab’s best places to buy food
Jonathan Gifford dishes out a list of the best places to eat on campus.
7th: The Pub/Hive
Unlike most pubs, the lack of Sunday Roast is immensely distressing… In their defence the nachos aren’t so bad, but only after having consumed several beers beforehand. My advice: stick to alcohol.
6th: The Shop!
You were higher on my list until earlier today, when my favourite type of sandwich ran out AGAIN. While your ‘Argy Bhaji’ sandwiches will bring a smile to anyone’s face, they’re never there. (Plus I loathe he tubs of pasta…)
5th: Campus Kitchen
Much as we love your cafeteria like feel (ideal for students, I will admit) the recent purge of “all you can eat Wednesday’s” from yester-year is distressing. Furthermore, it is becoming harder and harder to hide an extra slice of bacon on our 9 item breakfast as your staff now serve us! Shame on you Campus Kitchen, shame on you…
4th: Blend
Why go to Campus Kitchen when you can go upstairs to the magical world that is blend?… Well, it can get a little dark on a winter’s day, and the large circular-central sitting area is simply impossible to get comfortable in while I tuck into wedges. So close to the top 3 Blend, yet so far.
3rd: Café Direct
The queues can be a bit ridiculous, and finding a seat (especially the leather ones) is practically impossible, while the professor in the corner may take up a whole table to himself with sprawling work… but the coffee is the best and the sandwiches are divine.
2nd: INTO
Having discovered this gem, there’s nothing better than sitting in one of the floating boxes which stick out of the building (well done to the architects) and admiring the view while munching away at whatever delight you’ve selected… not bad INTO
1st: The Sportspark
Lavish in a magnificent meal while watching others tire themselves out on the running track. What could be better?
