City College student attempts to kill lecturer after becoming obsessed

She will be treated at a mental hospital

A knife-wielding City College student has appeared in court after trying to kill her lecturer.

19-year-old Emily Marchi plotted to stab the lecturer with a pair of scissors after feeling rejected by her.

The court heard that the lecturer had to barricade herself and her students in a classroom while the student – who was screaming and holding the scissors in a “dagger-like” manner – attempted to smash the window of the door with a brick.

After being released on bail, the drama and dance student was found on Aylsham Road en route to her lecturer’s house carrying a kitchen knife, Halloween skull mask, a pair of scissors and a blood-soaked notebook, the prosecutor said.

It was concluded that the student had been suffering from a mental health disorder and this was the overriding reason for her actions.

Judge Anthony Bate detained the student under a hospital order and she will be treated at the Norwich secure unit, the Norvic Clinic.
