Two men charged over death of UEA student

Police investigating the death of a UEA student have charged two men with causing death by dangerous driving.

21-year-old Rebecca McManus was killed when a car crashed into the bus stop she and a friend were waiting at.

The third year had just completed her degree in English Literature with Creative Writing and was in Birmingham for a friend’s hen do.

She was pronounced dead at the scene while her friend was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

32-year-old Sukvinder Mannan, who was driving the red Mitsubishi, was arrested within an hour of the accident, which took place at 7.50pm.

Inderjit Singh, travelling alongside Mannan, was arrested at his home address on June 15.

The men have been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury through dangerous driving. Mannan has also been charged with failing to provide a blood sample following the crash and Singh faces a separate charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

They are set to appear before Sandwell Magistrates on December 2.
