Tributes paid to first year killed in car crash
‘Rak is absolutely the coolest, funniest and smoothest guy I have ever had the privilege to meet’
Tributes have poured in for a Law first year killed in a car crash over the weekend.
Rakesh Joshi – who was visiting his mother in Croydon for Mother’s Day – was killed when his car crashed into a tree on Saturday March 14.
His friends have since spoken out about their grief over his loss.
Tommy Dominguez said: “How long you’ve known someone does not equate the closeness of your friendship. Uni taught me this.
“At the weekend when I found out the news that one of my close mates had been taken from this world I burst into tears immediately. I’m still struggling to believe it’s true.
“Starting university six months ago I knew no one. Rak was one of the first people I met and we got on straight away.
“He was so funny, great to be around and was an all-round amazing guy.
He didn’t have a bad bone in his body and was one of the most genuine and selfless people I had the privilege of meeting.
“We both studied Law, played football and chilled together, and it kills me to think that we’re not going to have another “dece” time as he would say.
“I’m now struggling to think of a suitable replacement to cut my hair, or have late-night library sessions with, or dance ridiculously when we’re out clubbing.
“We might no longer be going on our lads’ holiday with the boys this summer or going to see J. Cole but that doesn’t mean I’ll forget all the good memories that we had.”
Tom Fox, who lived with Rakesh, said: “These past few days have definitely been some of the hardest I’ve gone through in my life. Rak had such an impact on my life, even though I had only met him in September.
“Rak is absolutely the coolest, funniest and smoothest guy I have ever had the privilege to meet. There was literally not a thing that this guy couldn’t do – how could I forget your amazing dancing bro?
“I would tell Rak most days that I was so happy to have met him and that I definitely wouldn’t have been able to get through uni if he wasn’t there as we spent everyday and did everything together.
“This guy did everything for me, from cooking me food to cutting and styling my hair because his hair is so awesome. I’m not sure what I am going to do now but I will never forget you Rak.”
Grace Carrick, another of his flatmates, added: “I’m so honoured and grateful I got to know you over the last six months and I still can’t comprehend that it’s all over.
“I’m so pleased I got to share so many amazing memories and that I had the privilege of living with you. You definitely made my university experience a lot easier and I’d like to thank you for being such a kind, genuine and positive guy.
“It’s not ever going to be the same without you around as you always had such an impact on everyone you met.”
