I used girls toiletries for a week and it made me feel more on fleek
Turns out ‘intimate cleansing wipes’ aren’t for your face
Girls have so much unnecessary choice when it comes to toiletries, like, why are there different types of shampoo for different types of hair? It’s so much easier being male, where you have one shampoo, one shower gel, and if you’re showing off maybe some conditioner. There must be a reason girls have so many options, so I decided to test out some of their products.
Walking into my local Poundland, I was genuinely dumbfounded at the number of options available. There was so much colour, so many options, so much confusion. Enlisting the help of some female friends I was able to make my choices, deciding to purchase some fancy pink razors, sickly scented deodorant, a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, and what I thought were face wipes, having used them as my sole toiletry items for the past week.
Razors
Growing a moustache for the Movember charity means I have little purpose for razors at the moment. Despite this, I don’t understand the hype around women’s razors. They’re a bit more soothing on the skin, but the blades are so blunt – I tried to shave a patch of my leg hair to test it and it took FOREVER. 4/10
If only I could shave off dat ‘tashe
Deodorant
There was so much choice – do I go with ‘dry’ deodorant, or a ‘cool’ deodorant?! Preferably there would be a deodorant which was both cool and dry, but alas I had to settle for the dry option (and not just because the bottle was pink). Claiming to give the wearer 72-hour protection is an incredibly bold statement, although it kept me covered for a whole Union night, and I can’t ask for much more than that.
Despite this, who applies deodorant once every three days?! I really liked the smell, although it mixed horrendously with male aftershave. I’ll probably go back to using blokes deodorant, but women’s deodorant is certainly far better than their razors. 7/10
2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner
Despite having fairly long hair compared to the rest of my gender, I never ever condition my hair usually. It’s so much effort, and I never thought it actually made a difference. How wrong I was – my hair has never felt so good! Discovering the power of conditioner is probably the only good thing to have come out of making this article. 9/10
My fave
‘Face’ wipes
They looked like face wipes, they felt like face wipes, they even smell quite like face wipes, but believe me, ‘intimate feminine cleansing wipes’ really should go nowhere near your face. Being a fairly ignorant male I had no idea such a wipe even existed. It had no adverse affect on my skin but it felt weird doing it – no wonder the cashier gave me such a weird look when I was buying them. 3/10
My week of using girl’s toiletries left me feeling surprisingly fresh, and it certainly made my hair fleekier. However, I’m still mildly scarred from using those face wipes, and the razors aren’t gonna come close to removing my awful moustache come December 1st. Therefore I will be reverting to using mens toiletries (and women’s conditioner).
