You can now nominate yourself or a friend for an SU Officer position
Elections will be held later this year
It's coming to that time of the year again when campaigning for the different SU Officer roles will begin. There are a total of 16 positions students can run for, five full time roles whilst the others are all part-time roles. Each role is a year long, starting in July 2018 and ending in June 2019. Nominations have now opened for each of these roles, where you can nominate yourself or a friend.
The full time roles include: Undergrad Education, Postgrad Education, Activites & Opportunities, Campaigns & Democracy and Welfare, Community & Diversity. Each of these roles is paid around £19,000 and expect to work around 37 hours a week.
The part-time roles are split into Liberation and non-liberation positions. Liberation officers will represent students who are often marginalised, they include; Women's+ Officer, LGBT+ Officer (Open Place), LGBT+ Officer (Trans and Non-Binary Place), Students with Disabilities Officer, Ethnic Minorities Officer, International Students' Officer (EU), International Students' Officer (Non-EU) and Mature Students.
These roles are volunteer roles whilst hours are flexible typically they spend around 10 hours a week on SU issues.
Finally there are six other part time non-Liberation positions. Again these are unpaid and work similar hours as their Liberation counterparts. They include; x4 Non-Portfolio Officers, Environment Officer and Ethical Issues Officer.
Commenting on the election, the SU’s Returning Officer Michael Wigg said: "The SU elections are an amazing opportunity for students across UEA to propose ideas and change things. You really don’t need to be in the ‘SU clique’ to stand or win – you get bags of support from the SU staff in planning your election campaign and win or lose it’s great experience.
"Even if standing for office is not for you, we all know that person who would be great if they stood – so I’d encourage all Tab readers to think about who would be great and encouraging them to stand."
Nominations close on the 20th February and voting begins on the 27th. If you want to find out more, then follow this link.
