BREAKING: UEA lecturers reject updated pension offer

The agreement would have seen the strike halted tomorrow

Update at 16.30: Sally Hunt, leader of the national UCU, has confirmed that the organisation have rejected the agreement, saying: "The strike action for this week remains on and we will now make detailed preparations for strikes over the assessment and exam period".

The UEA branch of the UCU, who have organised the strikes in response to lecturers pensions over the past three weeks, have rejected the agreement to halt strikes, made last night between the national UCU and the Universities UK (UUK).

The decision to reject the UUK agreement was made following an open meeting which was held in the LCR this morning. It means contrary to reports last night, strike action will not be halted tomorrow, and will likely continue until after the Easter Holidays.

The lecturers of UEA are far from the only institution to reject the agreement, with the representatives of at least 34 universities having allegedly rejected the UUK agreement by midday on Tuesday. A statement from the UCU in response to widespread dissatisfaction about the agreement is expected later this afternoon.

The Tab Norwich will update this story as more information becomes avaliable.
