Paramedic struck off after groping UEA student
He sexually assaulted her while he was her mentor
A senior ambulance worker has been struck off for groping and harassing a female student while he was mentoring her between December 2016 and September 2017.
The student, a first year at the University of East Anglia, reported David Glenton, who worked for the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) and was her mentor. She told her university course director that Mr Glenton touched her breast, bottom and thigh during the seven shifts she worked with him.
Mr Glenton also made comments to the student. He said: "I am going to make you cry, you bitch", when the pair discussed her competency, and also described his previous student as his "nemesis".
Mr Glenton admitted these comments were ill-judged, but blamed them on his "schoolboy" sense of humour, and denied all other allegations.
The ambulance service suspended him whilst and internal investigation was carried out. A tribunal was also held and finished last week.
At the tribunal, the student gave evidence, saying Mr Glenton would reach for the pen in her breast pocket with a "lingering touch" and that he would grope her bottom when moving behind her in the ambulance, and touched her thigh when reaching for something hanging on her belt.
The Health and Care Professions Tribunals Service (HCPTS) struck him off last week for his "sexually-motivated" misconduct that caused emotional harm to the student, who dropped out of university due to health issues caused by Mr Glenton's behaviour.
It also said he showed a "limited" amount of insight and remorse for his "shortcomings".
