BBQ, beats and bingo: Here’s what’s on in Sheffield over the Easter break

While many people at uni go home over the Easter break, lots of students either don't have this as an option, or prefer to stay in the Steel City.

If you fall into the latter categories, fear not, as there is a rich variety of Easter events taking place in Sheffield. Below is a carefully compiled round up of just some of the highlights.

Cora Pearl at The Washington (29 March)

The music doesn't stop in Sheffield over Easter, with a free show from Cora Pearl at The Washington on Thursday. The four-piece, who have come together through the University of Sheffield, have taken the local scene by storm in recent months and are about to release their first single. Support comes from fast rising four-piece The Honeymoon Suite.

SMO-Fo Pit Stop at Summit House car park (30 March-1 April)

An open air BBQ event in a car park, the SMO-Fo Pit Stop takes place from Good Friday to Easter Sunday, and features a smoked barbecue with beef burgers, smoked beef brisket, homemade mac and cheese, Asian chicken, and vegan treats all on offer. There is also a smoked ghost chilli corn eating challenge if you think you can handle the heat.

SpringFest at Magna (1 April)

While not strictly in Sheffield, SpringFest takes place just outside the Steel City at Magna and is among the biggest events taking place in Yorkshire over Easter. If your idea of a perfect Easter Sunday involves bass and booze, you're in luck – Jauz, AJ Tracey, Jamie Duggan, Patrick Topping, and Holy Goof are all on the line up. Bass faces at the ready.

Peddler Night Market (6-7 April)

Ah, Peddler. With its enviable range of delicious food options, local beverages, and live and DJ entertainment, if you're in Sheffield for the first full weekend of April, you could do a lot worse than getting down to the famous night market and treating yourself.

Bongo's Bingo at O2 Academy Sheffield (7 April)

Since starting in September, Bongo's Bingo has claimed the hearts, minds, and dignity of countless Sheffield students. For the uninitiated, the combination of your gran's favourite pastime, lots of beer, and every cheesy dance pop hit ever made guarantees a night to at least partially remember.

The Sheffield Half Marathon (8 April)

Following a number of sold out marathon events, the Asda Foundation Sheffield Half Marathon gives locals and students alike the chance to raise a load of money for good causes while running 13 miles.
Thousands of runners of all abilities are set to take part, with the start and finish in the city centre, as well as a trip into the super scenic Peak District.

Aston Merrygold at The Leadmill (13 April)

Okay, so perhaps the former boy band member isn't your standard Leadmill headline act. However, it's 2018, it's no longer cool to pretend that JLS didn't have a whole load of banging tunes, and, after an application for four huge Hillsborough Park gigs was withdrawn last month, it's the closest that you'll get to seeing "AM" in Sheffield for a while.
