Buses powered by poo are coming to Bristol

They won’t smell don’t worry

Bus companies Wessex Bus and First West are both planning on rolling out buses powered by poo later this year after trials for buses powered solely by faeces proved successful in the Spring on the number two route.

Wessex are hoping to bring 20 of these poo buses to the lovely streets of Bristol while First West of England are looking at introducing a fleet of 110 all together.

Soon these will be powered by bio-methane

The move comes in part following a new collaboration between First West of England and OLEV (Office for Low Emission Vehicles) and local councils in which both companies are aiming to introduce bio-buses to the regular routes of Bristol.

Storage tanks would be installed at Lawrence Hill Depot in Bristol to hold the bio-methane used to fuel the buses, one more reason never to leave the city centre.

Buses definitely need a bit of excitement these days.

As these buses are powered by bio-methane, they cut out the need for fossil fuels making them extremely environmentally safe.

Jenny MacLeod, General Manager for the Bristol branch of First West of England said that: “These buses would make a huge impact on Bristol and really help to carry the Green Capital legacy forward”.

The plan is to introduce 10 poo buses to Bristol next year if the bill goes ahead, and then the remaining would be in action by 2019, as if the bus services weren’t crap enough already.
