UoB divests from fossil fuel companies

and now urge the USS to follow suit


Today, the University of Bristol announced that it has completely ended all its investments in fossil fuel companies, following a pledge made in March 2018.

Bristol Uni was also the first uni to declare a climate change emergency.

Robert Kerse, the University of Bristol's Chief Operating Officer, said, "Collaboration between students and staff has been instrumental in bringing about this change."

Bristol Uni, Bristol SU and the Bristol branch of the UCU have also called on the national Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) to follow suit and terminate their investments in the fossil fuel industry within the 48 months.

At the moment USS invests close to £1bn in fossil fuel companies

James Thompson, President of the Bristol UCU, said, "We are proud to join with the University of Bristol, and People and Planet, in calling on USS to divest from fossil fuels."
