Bristol Uni announces 927 confirmed coronavirus cases

Today’s update confirmed an increase of 128 cases since Friday

Bristol University has announced that 913 students and 14 staff members have now tested positive for coronavirus.

The update today revealed an increase of 128 students testing positive since Friday, as well as a further four staff members, bringing the total up to 927. 10 of the affected staff members have been working from home and not been on campus, while four staff members have been working from home and been on campus.

This comes after concerns raised by the Bristol UCU about the safety of in-person teaching were rejected by the university, as they insisted that the mitigating measures already in place are enough to safeguard staff.

Students are advised to inform the university through the student self-reporting form in order to “minimise the risk to others and keep everyone safe.”

They also advise that “if you have symptoms of coronavirus you, and all members of your household, must self-isolate until you have your test results.”

Bristol Uni freshers isolating in halls have signed a rent strike agreement, organised by Bristol Cut The Rent, to get a third off their rent payment. They argue that they “are paying thousands” for facilities they cannot use whilst in isolation.
