Dame Barbara goes on leave from Medwards

She is taking unpaid leave during the preparation for the government inquiry into the allegations against Oxfam workers

| UPDATED

Dame Barbara will take unpaid leave from Murray Edwards from 6th March until 17th April, to prepare for the inquiry by the Charity Commission into Oxfam's actions in Haiti.

In the meantime, the College's Vice President, Dr Ruchi Sinnatamby will serve as a deputy, while the Governing Body consider appointing an Acting President for the next month.

This follows calls by the Murray Edwards JCR for a discussion over whether Dame Barbara is fit to remain in place. A statement released by the JCR reported a sense among BME students and survivors of sexual abuse that they could not feel comfortable while Dame Barbara remains President. However, the college has not responded to the statement, and has referred to the allegations against her as "untrue".
