Students left seething after Octopussy scam
“My Halloween was completely ruined.”
Octopussy were forced to apologise yesterday after turning away hundreds of students from a Halloween event on Friday.
The company, which advertised a 2500 person capacity Halloween party in a “secret location”, completely sold out of tickets online.
And when it emerged that the planned venue was Walkabout on Renfrew Street, questions were raised.
Students are furious, taking to the event’s Facebook page on Saturday to voice their anger.
Many have demanded a full refund of the £10 they spent on tickets.
Nicole, a Glasgow uni student and one of those refused entry, said: “We waited in the queue for over an hour and didn’t move.
“We started hearing rumours from people around us that it was a one-in-one-out policy, and that drinks were only £2 if you were a Cali student.
“Apparently for the rest of us it was £4 for a vodka mixer.
“My friend arrived earlier in the night and said the queues were huge but it was dead inside and just generally shit, and she left within 15 minutes. They just weren’t letting anyone in. But it was packed later on.”
She explained how the club shoved so many people in that you could hardly move.
“It was an absolute scam.
“And they were selling tickets in the queue at a tenner a pop, even though they knew the people weren’t going to get in and they’d already sold over capacity.
“My Halloween was completely ruined. All these people got dressed up for nothing. I am absolutely furious.”
Octopussy maintains that they did not sell over capacity, despite the fact that more than 300 people were turned away from the event.
No further comment has been made by the company about the promised refunds, with students now threatening to go to the City of Glasgow Council Trading Standards about the illegal false advertising.
