A vigil for Sarah Everard is taking place online in Glasgow this Saturday

Following the disappearance of Sarah Everard this week, there will be vigil run by Reclaim these streets Glasgow on Saturday 13th March, 6pm. The vigil will be online, in line with Covid restrictions, via the Facebook event.

Organisers have said “We believe that streets should be safe for women, regardless of what you wear, where you live or what time of day or night it is. We shouldn’t have to wear bright colours when we walk home and clutch our keys in our first to feel safe.”

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions in Glasgow, the organisers urge people to attend the vigil in their own home, and can show solidarity by lighting a candle in their window or doorstep, and tweet #ReclaimTheseStreets.

Update: The organisers decided that they wanted to give people the opportunity to physically show up for something they care strongly about, and so they have decided to localise the vigils in four separate locations across Glasgow. The organisers emphasised that these are not gatherings, but are places where people can show up for Sarah and all women, if they want. They encourage people to tie a ribbon around fences or lamp posts  and write a note, to show solidarity.

The organisers ask that people attending comply with the two metre social distancing and all wear a mask, and if they have any symptoms of Covid-19, then do not attend.

People are still encouraged to show their support from home if they do not feel comfortable going to one of the locations, so the can still light a candle at their window or doorstep.

People are able to attend these locations from 6pm-8pm.
