Shock as 19-year-old girl raped in Leamington Spa

It wasn’t even dark

A 19-year-old woman was raped in the afternoon of the last day of term.

Warwickshire police are investigating the shocking attack, which occurred before darkness on the 13th March on Riverside Walk in Leamington Spa, close to the River Leam.

The 19-year-old woman was sexually and physically assaulted by a man who gave his name as “Thomas” or “Tom”. He is thought to be local due to his accent and was unknown to the victim.

Police are appealing for information about the attack and give a description of the suspect as a white man, over 5”3, of medium build, mid to late 20’s, with dark brown hair.

He was also described as having a pale spotty complexion, bushy eyebrows and was clean shaven. He was smoking a cigarette as he approached the victim.

Detective Inspector Graham Farren said “This was a very serious and frightening attack by a stranger.”

“We are doing all we can to trace the suspect.”

Ruby Davies, a Second year Engineer, says that it is absolutely disgusting to hear about incidents of this nature still happening in 2015: “This attack happened between 5:30pm and 6:30pm, even scarier to think that walking alone is so dangerous in the early evening.

“It’s absolutely horrible. My thoughts are with this girl.”

Police are urging anyone with any information to  contact police on 101, quoting incident number 38 of 14th March.
