Rio’s is being knocked down for student accommodation

A four-storey building with 46 bedrooms will be replacing it

The nightclub Rio is soon to be knocked down to make way for more student accommodation in Leamington Spa, says Warwick District Council Parade.

The planned development on Bedford Street will ultimately become a four storey building with 46 bedrooms, just a short walk away from the Parade.

The council decided in favour of these plans, despite being recommended by its own officers to halt them.

There are concerns by both residents and officials that the new development is too large and will have a negative impact on the parking situation in the area.

Nevertheless, the plans are going ahead, as planning committee chair Coun John Cooke said in an interview that “the proposed development would improve this part of Bedford Street.”
