These are the biggest celebs who started out as Bristol students just like you
Derren Brown wore a cloak and hung out in caves as a Bristol student
Not anyone can be famous but famous people can come from anywhere. That’s certainly true for these seven A-list celebs who all started out as Bristol university students.
You can tell a lot about a person by the university they went to, so would you have guessed that all of these celebs were once Bristol students? There are only about two of them you can see at Lakota at 3am.
We’ve compiled a list of the biggest celebs that started out as Bristol uni students and we bet you wouldn’t have guessed any of them!
Simon Pegg
Simon Pegg (you know the guy that has the Pegg theatre named after him) studied Theatre, Film and Television at Bristol in 1991. Whilst at university he was part of a comedy sketch troupe called David Icke and the Orphans of Jesus with none other than David Walliams. After leaving Bristol, Pegg went on to star in, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Doctor Who andStar Wars: The Force Awakens. Anyone else kind of tempted to join Revunions?
Will Poulter
So he may not have technically completed his degree, but it’s true, the We’re the Millers, Maze Runner and Black Mirror, Bandersnatch star studied drama at the University of Bristol. Apparently he lived in Baddock, which isn’t too much of a surprise. Unfortunately, Will had to drop out of university, but fortunately he went on to star in a couple of million-dollar grossing movies (no biggie). With an estimated net-worth of $5 million, dropping out of Uni and pursuing a career in Hollywood was probably the right choice.
David Walliams
Little Britain, Come Fly with Me star and Britain’s Got Talent judge, had his humble beginnings as a Drama student at the University of Bristol. Whilst at Bristol, he starred in a comedy troupe with Simon Pegg. I wish my university friends were that cool!
Matt Lucas
The Little Britain and Come Fly with Me star studied Theatre, Film and Television at the University of Bristol. In his summers he spent time with the National Youth Theatre where he met fellow Bristol alumnus David Walliams. Lucas is reportedly one of Bristol’s only graduates to actually make any money with a Theatre, Film and Television degree.
James Blunt
He studied aerospace manufacturing engineering and sociology in 1996 and then went on to pursue a career in music. Famous songs of his include ‘You’re beautiful’ and ‘Goodbye my Lover’. He’s sold 20 million records worldwide, received two Brit awards and to top it all off he received the honorary title of Doctor of Music from the University of Bristol. Not sure if his engineering degree has come into much use.
Emily Watson
Watson read English at Bristol university and describes herself as a ‘a nice middle-class English girl’, so is pretty much exactly like every single English student at Bristol university who wants to become a famous actress. She spent the early years of her career working for the Royal Shakespeare company and since then has acted in films such as The Theory of Everything and Kingsman: The Royal Circle.
Susanna Reid
Reid read Politics, Philosophy and Law at Bristol. She edited Epigram (probably because The Tab Bristol didn’t exist back then). Now a presenter on Good Morning Britain she spends most of her time trying to put up with Piers Morgan.
Derren Brown
Brown read German and Law, and initially wanted to be an international lawyer. Whilst at university he wore a cloak, and had a drop earring (like every softboi I know). Apparently he used to go to a cave that was hidden on one side of the Avon Gorge, light a bonfire and read Nietzsche. Classic Bristol student!
