Major Search Launched for Missing Hatfield Student

Police are searching the area for missing Hatfield second year, Sopefoluwa Peters, who disappeared on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old, known to his friends as Sope, was last seen outside Klute between 11:15pm and 12:15 am on Tuesday evening and has not been heard from since.

The economics student is 5’7″, black and left the house wearing green trousers and a black t-shirt. Check his Facebook profile here to see if you recognise him.

Sope told his friends he would catch them up in Jimmy Allens bar, but was not seen again that night and has since failed to reply to texts, emails and Facebook messages, which his friends say is very out of character.

His parents live in Northern Virginia in the USA and are being kept informed of developments.

Police are treating this as a serious matter. Officers have been tracing the possible routes he could have taken back to his flat in Highgate, and helicopters have been searching the area today.

Insp Paul Anderson, from Durham Constabulary, said “We are very concerned for Sope, as there has been no trace of him since Tuesday night.

“He hasn’t responded to any attempts to contact him and his phone has not been traced.

“If anyone has seen him since then, or if they saw a young man matching his description in Durham on Tuesday night, I would ask them to contact us as soon as possible on 101.”

Police urge anyone who thinks they saw him around this time or have since, to please call 07910813522 immediately to be put in contact with the relevant officers.
