Durham named fifth best uni in the Good University Guide

We have reached the dizzy heights of the top five unis in the country.

Durham climbed a whole place from last year’s sixth place to be ranked number five overall, and was ranked eighth in the UK for graduate prospects.

In the newly released rankings for 2016, the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide confirmed what we all already know at Durham.

Unis were ranked on degree results achieved, research quality, graduate prospects, entrance qualifications held by new students, services and facilities, student/staff ratios, degree qualification rates as well as student satisfaction with the teaching quality and the wider university experience.

Cheers to that

This success is yet another trophy in the cabinet of Durham’s recent achievements, such as the university’s recent rise in global status in the QS World University rankings, in which it climbed 31 places to 61st in the world. Durham was also shortlisted for the Times and Sunday Times University of the Year Award for 2016.

This is seen by some in the Durham camp as one step closer in their mission of making ‘Doxbridge’ a thing, and many were chuffed with these recent results.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Durham Prof Ray Hudson said: “We are extremely proud to have secured a top five position in this league table and to have been shortlisted for The Times and Sunday Times University of the Year award 2016.

“This success, following our significant rise in the recent QS World University Rankings, once again demonstrates the strength of the innovative research-led education that we provide.

“In addition, our distinctive student experience enables our students to develop the key skills valued by top employers, such as leadership, critical thinking and entrepreneurship, making our graduates among the most sought after in the world.”

Ah beautiful Durham

Second Year Sociology student Megan said: “I’m proud to say I’m at the fifth best uni in the UK. Sixth place was alright but fifth just sounds so much better.”

Second Year Law Student Kate also said: “Now we’re only three places behind Oxbridge maybe everyone at Durham who they rejected won’t feel so bitter.”
