Disastrous Parent Formal for four Castle chundergraduates

College office was not impressed

Last Thursday was the second of Castle College’s Parent Formals. But the drinking games proved too much for four unsuspecting freshers, whose nights ended prematurely when they threw up.

In keeping with the formal rules for the world heritage sites’ Great Hall, fines of “£30 for puking and leaving or £10 for ‘ruining a jug'” were given to the college parents who had supplied the alcohol and “corked” their children’s glasses one too many times.

Castle put the parents on the naughty step, telling them to stop being stupid or they won’t get to play again.

The college office reacted seriously to the incident, sending out a caution through the JCR Newsletter.

The message addressed College parents: “Please don’t hijack the occasion in order to be stupid. We’ve issued heavy fines to college parents as a result of Thursday nights behaviour,” while warning: “The College will only cancel parent formal if there is a repeat this week.”

Castle third year and College mum, Callie Foreman was at the scene, sitting opposite one of the puking freshers.

She said: “Never have I been more in touch with my maternal instincts than when I was shielding my daughter from the splash back. It was a real bonding moment, but I would have definitely preferred going for coffee or something.”

The college just has to hope that the freshers who learned the antics of formals the hard way don’t suffer from repeat incidents in the future.
