Durham’s love affair with glitter has gone so far we even have our own Glit Soc

You’re guaranteed a good time

For a long time, glitter was a thing only for festivals and magic shows, but not any more. Walk into any club in Durham or society social and you’ll be sure to spot many faces splashed with glitter and filled with happiness.

There doesn’t have to be a glitter theme, or even a theme at all, as long as you want to make it a good night, just throw some glitter on your cheeks.

Not only do you look great, the trail of glittery goodness you leave in your wake makes everyone else happy too. It doesn’t matter if it’s on your face, clothes, pillow or last night’s pull for a few days. That’s no bad thing, it just means those glittery vibes hang around that little bit longer.

GlitSoc

There is such a love for glitter that Glit Soc has been created this year, where anyone who loves glitter can come together to get sufficiently sparkly before showering Durham in colourful sparkles.

Emily Naylor, president of Glit Soc, said: “It’s just super fun to wear glitter on a night out and it looks cool. You don’t have to have any skills to join Glit Soc… it’s all inclusive for boys and girls across colleges.”

Around 60 people attended their last social and they have a full exec committee, complete with Glitter Supplier, Makeup Sec and Legend Coordinator.

At last month’s social, they had a space themed event and gave out free jelly shots.

The hype is not confined to Durham – there have even been recent articles and rumours online that glitter beards are the next big thing in men’s fashion.

Photos of men with already impressive beards improved with lots and lots of glitter – it’s pretty clear the world is a better place due to the abundance of sparkle.
