Inside Durham’s ‘Great Shave Off’: The Movember event that raised nearly £4,000 for charity

With Movember now in full swing, many of the male community have decided to throw away their razors and let nature take its course.

For the uninitiated, Movember is a month long campaign during which Men grow out their moustaches to raise money and awareness for men’s health.

Sam and Zac, the owners of Tango and the House of Gentleman, are keen to make an impact, so they hosted "The Great Durham Shave". The shave-off, held in Library Bar Durham, helped mark the start of Movember and raised nearly £4,000.

Razor sharp focus

On top of the shave-a-thon, this pair fund many other community projects and have set up a social impact charity to make people aware of the negative effects of consumption.

The event itself was an enormous success. Many DU students got involved, including members of the rugby club, one of whom had his head completely shaved for the event.
