Durham is officially in Tier 3: Here’s how it affects students

It has just been announced that Durham is to go into Tier 3 after the current national lockdown ends. Unfortunately this means no more trips to the pub before Christmas.

The rules for Tier 3 aren’t too different from the current lockdown, which will come as a huge disappointment to everyone that wanted to have one last trip to Jimmy’s before Christmas.

Here are the key points to remember for Tier 3 in Durham:

You must not meet with anyone you don’t live with (or isn’t in your support bubble) inside or outside.

You must not socialise in a group of more than six in some outdoor places such as parks, beaches, public gardens or sports facilities.

Hospitality settings such as pubs, bars and restaurants are staying closed but can operate as takeaways.

Indoor entertainment – bowling alleys, cinemas, casinos – are staying closed.

Gyms can stay open but group sessions cannot take place.

No public attendance at sports events.

Avoid travelling to other parts of the UK if not necessary.

This is obviously not the way we were hoping to end Michaelmas Term, but if we stick to the rules, hopefully the situation will be better by Epiphany.

The tier system is subject to change and will be reviewed on the 16th December, so this tier for Durham will not be forever.
