Chad’s and John’s rugby boys raising money for charity by running distance to North Pole

They’ve nearly raised £2000!

Over the course of January the men of the Combined Chad’s John’s RFC are running the distance from Durham to the North Pole: an incredible 3732 miles, all in aid of Durham Foodbank.

As the challenge was conceptualised over Christmas, the team decided they needed a landmark distance to work towards, and so the idea of running to the North Pole was born. They initially set a target of £1000 and chose to support Durham Foodbank as they wanted to give back to the Durham community that they have loved being a part of during their time at uni. Especially after the events of the past year, the club felt compelled to support those most in need however they could.

The team is halfway through the challenge and they’ve already smashed their first target, which they have now upped to £2000. Their dedication to the cause is clear as despite many pairs of sore legs and even a black eye from the ex captain, they’re soon set to exceed their second target.

With black eyes like this, you can’t fault their dedication

Although the team’s primary focus is raising money for charity, they have found it a great way to integrate freshers, build team morale whilst they’ve not been able to train due to Covid, and of course shift some of the Christmas pounds.

As Social Sec Harvey Stevens puts it: “Having a goal like this to achieve has made it easier for us to encourage each other whilst also hopefully inspiring other students and our family and friends to come round to help the community around us”.
