Fear not: Glasgow will have an ice rink this Christmas

Ruth MunroWhen the Glasgow City Council announced that the ice rink in George Square would not be returning this year, we all shed a tear.

But we can all rejoice as it has been reported that a private company has said there will be skating at Candleriggs Square in the Merchant City, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.
Live Event Service (LES) director Thom O’Donnell, from the firm running the rink, told the Evening Times: “Skating outdoors is a tradition in Glasgow every Christmas; something that people look forward to and have come to expect year on year.”

There’s also going to be an expanded cafe menu and an indoor Winter Lodge seating area with live entertainment.
The ice rink will be open from 10am to 10pm daily, from Saturday December 3 to Saturday December 31, but closed Christmas Day.
