Apparently the next Avengers film is being filmed in Durham Cathedral this coming week
The assumption is backed up by evidence
Durham Cathedral and Palace Green are littered with prop vans, green screens, and security crews, in what is widely speculated to be preparation for the filming of an upcoming Marvel Studios production, Avengers: Infinity War.
The Cathedral will be closed “as part of a major project” from Thursday 4th May to Saturday 6th, as well as Tuesday 9th, while privately-rented vans outside read “Rigging” and “Construction” and employees of security firm SRM monitor the premises preventing photography.
An image tweeted in March, which has since been deleted, depicted directors Joe and Anthony Russo scouting a potential film location, subsequently confirmed to be Durham.
The all-star cast of the Russo brothers’ upcoming film, which is scheduled for release on 4th May 2018, includes Tom Hiddleston, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Hemsworth, and Zoe Saldana.
The Tab were approached by the project’s “Head of Security”, who gave his name as Steve, and were made to delete any photos containing film equipment.
‘Steve’ claimed the upcoming project was for “the installation of a penthouse suite at the top of the tower for the Dean and his wife, because they want to be closer to God.”
“They’re also having an ice rink put in.”
When asked why that required green screens, he said, “because they don’t want to look at the walls”. Behind the green screens are the 900-year-old walls of a cathedral recently voted “Britain’s favourite” and nominated for Heritage Site of the Year.
Mysteriously, despite hosting such a “major event”, when asked by The Tab, no Cathedral employees or volunteers had any idea what it was.
